DAY BOWMAN

Images   Bio

A self-described action painter, Bowman emphasizes the process and physicality of art-making through her thickly laid impasto and swirling brushstrokes.  Like all action painters Bowman has always been more involved with the process than the product - with the physical making of a painting. The artist’s works synthesizes various art historical influences from Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism. Evoking the work of the great masters of British land and seascape painting, such as JMW Turner, Bowman’s canvases are reminiscent of a tradition that is marked both by her native land and her own modern and personal expression.

'...a painting for Bowman is the release of energy through a contained form; it is actually a distillation of knowledge and experience expressed through an entirely visual medium.'
