ORLY COGAN
Working on vintage and printed fabrics, Orly Cogan acts as a collaborator - creating works that bridge the nostalgia for a bygone era with imagery that is utterly post-modern. Her fabrics become 'the foundation for a fantastical, exotic dialogue between the old and the new.' At times, Cogan's imagery is seemingly impudent while also an intimate portrayal of femininity. Playful, sexualized figures appear in contexts that are at once surprising and familiar conjuring both unease and curiosity. Cogan's work has the ability to amuse us while also begging more serious questions regarding gender identity.
