KARIN SANDERS
FINE ART
ERIC DEMARCHELIER
Growing up in St. Adresse, Normandy, Demarchelier was raised to appreciate the great masters. Upon moving to Paris as a young adult, he worked as an assistant to brother Patrick Demarchelier - world renown fashion photographer - and Alex Chatelain. Demarchelier also worked as a freelance photographer for French and German magazines during this time.
In the late seventies, the artist moved to New York City with his family where he pursued the culinary arts, opening and managing several well-known French restaurants over the next thirty years. These included Jean-Lafitte and Demarchelier Restaurant. During this period, he continued to nurture his love of fine art by studying painting with Leonid Gervis, a Russian artist who taught at the Repin Institute in St. Petersburg and at the New York Academy of Fine Art. Gervis' influence remains, in many ways, apparent in Demarchelier's work.
Eric Demarchelier lives and works in New York and Shelter Island.
