PAUL ICKOVIC
Images Bio Press
Paul Ickovic was born in Czechoslovakia in 1944. He has traveled the world extensively; recording his story through the photographs he takes.
His birth name was Pavel, which became Pablo when he lived in Colombia, and then Paul when he finally arrived in the United States. Like Franz Kafka, Ickovic has been an outsider who feels deeply rooted in his homeland. His photographs are in many ways autobiographical stories told through images rather than words.
Paul Ickovic’s photographs are included in many prestigious collections including the Museum of Modern Art and International Center of Photography in New York, the Biblioteque Nationale in Paris, and the National Gallery in Prague.
He has published several books including In Transit, Safe Conduct and Kafka’s Grave and Other Stories, in which he collaborated with Pulitzer Prize winning author David Mamet. Included in Safe Conduct, is an introductory essay by former Czech President and playwright, Vaclav Havel.
